Today was Garden Starting Day. Not for the tomato plants we started from seeds, but for some other plants. We bought a green pepper plant and some basil and cilantro plants at the farmer’s market this morning. Then we went to Home Depot to get 2 more pots for our patio, another green pepper plant, and some tomato cages. We came home with that, plus a strawberry planter, some strawberry plants, a window box, and some light bulbs. Ah yes, the impulse buy strikes. Hopefully we’ll at least get some strawberries out of this one.
Our garden consists of quite a few terracotta pots on a small balcony. In addition to the plants we bought today, we also have a raspberry plant that we bought last year, some lettuce that I planted from seed last year, some chives and catnip that we also bought last year that are all starting to grow back on their own. Soon we’ll add our tomato plants and then we’ll buy mint and a jalapeno plant when they are available at the farmer’s market.
Like most gardeners, our small garden keeps getting bigger every year. I think we may be reaching capacity for a balcony garden, though!
Here are some pictures of what we’ve started growing:
