One time I heard Alton Brown say that he lost weight while eating desserts because he went by the rule that it’s okay to have dessert if you try to get as much nutrition out of it as possible. I like that rule! I know these amazing oatmeal cookies have way too much butter and sugar in them to qualify as healthy, but they do have oatmeal and raisins in them, and that means you get some nutrition by eating them!
I also read…. um, somewhere…. about the idea of the U.S’s obesity problem being related to our constant access to highly processed prepared foods. It asked the question, how often would you eat french fries if you had to peel, slice, and fry them yourself every time? Probably not very often. So this is another reason I feel good about these cookies – I made them myself! And they taste REALLY good!
